Program Overview
Vision Therapy sessions are weekly in office sessions working one on one with a therapist to develop visual efficiency skills. One unit of Vision Therapy is 12 sessions. The amount of Vision Therapy units is determined by the doctor based on complexity of diagnosis, Functional Vision Assessment, Visual Information Processing Evaluation, and therapy progress. Our therapy sessions are active sessions that encourage movement to activate the patient’s vestibular and proprioceptive systems to fully integrate with the visual system. Most patients are in Vision Therapy for 6 months to a year.
The first step is to have a Functional Vision Assessment performed by Cary Family Eye Care. Once the assessment is performed, a determination will be made if you are a candidate for Vision Therapy. If you are found to be a good candidate for Vision Therapy you will be referred to Cary Vision Therapy and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation for therapy.
Progress Examinations
A progress examination is an exam that allows the doctor to track visual function progress. A progress exam is scheduled after each unit of Vision Therapy. At this exam previous testing will be performed to compare to baseline testing and an updated treatment plan will be created.
